Travel eSIMs, explained
Travel eSIM Guides for Filipinos: Roaming, Japan, China
Plain guides for Filipinos travelling abroad: travel eSIMs vs Globe and Smart roaming, pocket wifi, Japan, China, Taiwan and Vietnam, and brands compared.
Facts checked
Quick answer
- A travel eSIM gives your phone local data abroad without swapping your Globe or Smart SIM. Most plans we checked were data-only.
- Roaming is the no-install option. A travel eSIM often gives more data for the money, but compare for your own trip.
- Check your phone supports eSIM and isn't carrier-locked before you buy anything.
Lipad na sa Japan, Taipei o Hanoi? Bago ka mag-avail ng roaming o mag-rent ng pocket wifi, basahin muna ito. These guides help Filipino travellers pick the right way to get data abroad, set it up at home and fix it when it won't connect on arrival. We read each telco's and brand's own pages, and we date every price we mention.
We last checked everything on this page on 29 October 2026.

Three things to know before you buy
1. Check your phone. Dial *#06#. If you see an EID, your phone supports eSIM. It also needs to be free of a carrier lock. Our sister site's compatible phones guide lists models.
2. Keep your PH number. Most travel eSIMs we checked were data-only. Keep your Globe or Smart SIM on for SMS and bank OTPs, with data roaming off on that line. Apple warns that leaving roaming on for your home line can still cause charges.
3. Read the line under "unlimited". As listed on 29 October 2026, Airalo's unlimited plans slowed to 1 Mbps after 3GB a day. Other sellers have their own caps.

How we work
We're an independent guide. We read each brand's and telco's own pages, we date every price we show, and we don't claim speeds we haven't tested. Brands don't review our pages before they go live.
Mobile services in the Philippines are regulated by the National Telecommunications Commission, and the SIM Registration Act (Republic Act 11934) applies to SIMs and eSIMs. We are not a telco and we do not sell, activate or register SIMs. Always check the plan terms on the provider's own site before you buy.
